Ateronon is a lycopene supplement using LactoLycopene, which has been developed with the understanding that the potential clinical effectiveness of lycopene depends on how well it is absorbed. A single daily capsule of Ateronon provides more bioavailable lycopene than a litre of tomato juice or 100g of tomato paste, because it is absorbed more efficiently.

For lycopene to be effective, we know that it has to be readily absorbed by the body, or ‘bioavailable’. Processed tomatoes have been shown to be more bioavailable than raw tomatoes. One way to raise lycopene levels significantly is the unpalatable prospect of eating 100g of tomato paste every day. Alternatively, research has shown a daily supplement of Ateronon will achieve the same result.

In June 2014, a study titled ‘Effects of Oral Lycopene Supplementation on Vascular Function in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease and Healthy Volunteers: A Randomised Controlled Trial’ was published in the journal PLOSone. The study conducted at Cambridge University NHS Hospital Trust (Adenbrooke’s) showed a 53% improvement in endothelium-independent vasodilatation after taking Ateronon for 8 weeks.
